A Card for the Front Desk
Travelers don't go looking for a new map app. They ask people. So I turned the stop guide into a paper card for hotel front desks.
The accurate map was done. But one problem remained: how would travelers ever find this site?
Thinking back to the day I missed the bus, I didn't search for a new app. I asked a convenience store clerk. When travelers need directions, they ask a person — and the first person they ask is usually at the hotel front desk.
So I made a paper card. An A6 card with a single QR code. Scan it, and you're one tap from the stop map. There's also a card for each stop that opens that stop's exact location directly. I also made an A4 poster for the lobby. Its hours and fares are filled in automatically from the route data.
Each hotel can get a version with its own name and nearest stop. Front desk staff don't have to explain the way in a foreign language — they can just hand over the card.
I also added "Today" to the map. Tap a stop and it shows how many minutes until the next bus, in Japan time. It's based on the timetable, so the bus may run a little late, but you'll know whether to hurry or whether you can take your time.
