Digging through travel reviews and blogs, I found that far more than a few travelers had suffered from the same problem.
Back at the hotel, I did some searching.
"kagoshima city view bus stop wrong location"
On English-language review sites, travelers wrote that the map sent them to the wrong place and they missed the bus. Korean travel blogs had similar stories. Japanese reviews, too, mentioned that the stop locations were off.
They all had one thing in common: the City View bus stop locations on Google Maps didn't match reality.
The Tenmonkan stop where I got lost was one of them. It sits in the busiest shopping district, used by many tourists — and yet its location was off.
This wasn't one person's mistake. It was a system problem.
